This morning before school Mom sent me a message that read, “Praying for you. Have a terrific Tuesday!” God answered her prayers today because school was definitely terrific. The school day began with the science fair. Each grade level had several different groups of students each performing different experiments, all in English.

I spent the rest of the school day with Aline and the third grade students. You see when I signed on for this I thought I would just be tutoring here and there. But no. Today I was full-on teaching English to a class of 20+ kids. If you would have tried to tell me any time before today that I would be standing in front of 20+ third graders, let alone Mexican third graders, teaching them English, I would have laughed in your face and said, “Yeah right.” But it was almost indescribable.

To be completely honest I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. That seems to be a recurring theme here. But the kids all listened to me and did whatever I said. Their faces really lit up when I told them that they pronounced a difficult word correctly. One of the little girls was so excited that she gave me a sticker. Yeah, a sticker. No big deal right? Wrong. You see I was playing with stickers myself not that long ago and with a niece and five nephews I know the significance of a sticker. In case you are uneducated on the subject, I’ll help. Kids give stickers to people if they like them or they’re comfortable with them. To a kid, a sticker means that we’re friends now. So yeah, today I became best friends with a nine year old.

I wowed the kids today by telling them some tongue twisters. It was absolutely hilarious when they tried to repeat them back to me. They had no idea how I could talk that fast. What they don’t realize is that I feel the same way when they speak at their normal pace in Spanish.

This afternoon we had a ladies meeting where Serena taught the lesson. To my surprise I actually understood what it was about! It was about how everything in the world belongs to God and everything we do should be done giving glory to God. We tend to categorize things into secular or spiritual. We need to start taking things in the secular category and moving them to the spiritual category by doing everything we do glorifying God.

The fact that I was able to comprehend that is a prime example of how God has already been working in my life. I am so excited to see what else God has in store!
