This morning was our last day judging the spelling bee. It has been amazing to see these students, ranging from 1st grade to 9th grade, demonstrate their knowledge of English words. They can most certainly spell better than, well I won’t mention names but you know who you are.
Tonight Serena and I went to a women’s Bible study. This was a different group of women from the tea and dessert night. Of course the whole Bible study was in Spanish so I understood nothing. But the women were sweet to me anyways. We took the chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake that I baked last night and they all loved it. I have had two women now, after eating something I had baked, tell me that I am ready to marry. It’s a saying in their culture if you can cook or bake you are ready to marry. They say it then wink but I have to wait for Serena to translate so I just smile awkwardly and say “No” because thankfully no is the same in English and Spanish.
A woman I have mentioned previously, Cesiah, is about the same age as my sisters, married, and has a daughter about the same age of one of my nephews. She is fluently bilingual and I have really enjoyed talking with her so far. Honestly I see her as my Mexican Tiffany and Brittany since they are all about the same age and have children the same age. And Cesiah talks to me just like Tiffany and Brittany talk to me. God knew that I was going to miss my sisters entirely too much to handle so He provided me with a Mexican sister whom is very similar to my own. Granted, nothing and no one can ever take their place, but it’s always a blessing to have extra. Cesiah is another comfort that God has given me here in Saltillo and she doesn’t even know it.
